A native of Chicago, IL, Pastor Wilcoxon is married to Janice, his lovely wife of 50 years. From this union God blessed them with three beautiful daughters, five wonderful granddaughters, one great granddaughter and one grandson. He was called to the ministry and Licensed to Preach on February 5, 1989. He was ordained on March 17, 1991, at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Joseph L. Thomas. Prior to Mt Sinai, Pastor Wilcoxon worked for Ocean Spray Cranberries (24 years) and served as Interim Pastor at United Faith Baptist Church, Racine, WI. He served that congregation for nine months before being called to serve the Mt. Sinai Family. Pastor Wilcoxon has served the Mt. Sinai Family for the past 26 years. While the ministry has been both rewarding and challenging, the church has experienced phenomenal growth, both numerically and spiritually under his leadership. Reverend Wilcoxon was given the vision to expand the church edifice for God’s Kingdom Building. Mt. Sinai began Waiting on the Vision in 1999. In the year 2000, Mt. Sinai began Keeping the Vision Alive by voting to follow Pastor Wilcoxon’s vision from God and approved a $2.4 Million Building Expansion project. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 8, 2001, On December 15, 2002, the church family took a Victory March to the newly remodeled church and educational wing. The church was dedicated back to the Lord on January 12, 2003. In addition to serving as pastor, his number one passion is education and teaching. • He is a graduate of Lakeland College (Wisconsin) with a B.A. of Religion. • He is a graduate of Milwaukee Theological Institute with a Bachelor of Ministry. • Certified Instructor with the Certificate of Progress Program of the National Baptist Convention, USA • Instructor with the Baptist General State Congress of Christian Education of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. • He is a certified instructor (Leadership Development) with the National Baptist Convention. Pastor Wilcoxon is also active in the community. • He is the Former Vice President of the NAACP Kenosha Branch • Served as chairman of the Religious Affairs Department NAACP Kenosha Branch. • Served on the Board of Directors for the Kenosha, Wisconsin Community Health Center • Served as a board member on the North Chicago Chamber of Commerce • He received an award for Professional Excellence in 1991. • In 1997, he was voted one of the Most Influential African Americans of Lake County, IL. • In 2003, at the Most Influential African Americans of Lake County, IL he was awarded the Eagle Award. • February of 2005, he was awarded the Harambee Award of Excellence from the College of Lake County (IL) for his devotion to the elevation of humanity through education. • 2011 Pastor Gerald and Janice Wilcoxon were awarded Most Influential African Americans of Lake County, IL. In 2011 Rev. Wilcoxon was awarded the Drum Major Award given to those who value and exemplify our Senior Citizens. • August of 2018, Pastor Wilcoxon was selected to become the First Vice President of the North Shore Ministers Alliance. • District Level He served on the Executive Board of the Lake Shore Baptist District as President of the Congress of Christian Education from 2001-2009. • From 2009-2013, served as Moderator of the Lakeshore Baptist District Association. • From 2016 to present, Pastor Wilcoxon serves as Board Pastor on the Board of Directors, Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ) of Lake County. Pastor Wilcoxon prayer is for God to continue to be a lamp unto his feet and a light unto his pathway. That God will bless him with the spiritual tools to “Raise the Standard for God’s People.” He feels that we must locate, educate, and illuminate the will of God’s word into the hearts of men, women, boys, and girls who are still struggling to come out of darkness and into the glorious light which is Christ Jesus.
